My power steering gear box is leaking pretty bad..... I went to a u-pull it junk yard today and found a 2wd 93 4runner and a couple 2wd 80s pickups (88-89 IIRC) I'm wondering if the power steering gear boxes from any of these will work??? If I'm reading this correctly, the gear box out of the 93 may fit or is it only for 4x4? http://web.archive.org/web/200503220.../taco/box.html

Any suggestions on trucks to pull the parts from?

Thanks

Some time in the late 80's the 4wd (trucks and 4Runners) boxes changed... I know I used a later box on an earlier truck once, but I don't remember how direct of a swap it was. 2wd pickups are probably going to be totally different, but the boxes on 90-95 2wd 4Runners may be the same "4wd" box.... Try looking through the Toyota parts catolog linked in bold red in the FAQ thread and see what vehicles used what boxes. Good luck!

86-89 IFS boxes have a external adjustment on them, 90-95 boxes do not. Other then that the IFS box's on 4wd trucks and 4runners are the same. I am pretty sure the 2wd box's are not compatible.

In 88 they changed the box, after that they are slightly larger. They are still a swap, but the distance between the input shaft and the steering linkage will change. Its only about a half inch though, but you want to match it up correctly so the bolt that clamps the splines can sit in the notch on the input shaft.

So I say either get a 86-88 and bolt it up, or get the later model one and find a way to extend the steering shaft.
