First off, this is not an advert. This post is the result of several lucky finds all at once. Im pretty sure i can answer most of the questions, but only pretty sure. Heres how it went down.. or up as the case may be:

Two weeks ago i bought a 1986 4runner. 22re, 5 speed, no rust, all that good stuff. It needed a little TLC but i was jsut the person to give it. This was the first major find. The second find was a set of leaf springs that were in a trash bin. they were good springs but the individual who had them before had lifted his fj40 and didnt need them anymore.

Im not sure which packs i got, with permission of course, but the answer is only a phone call away. we dropped the back axle off the springs. the two longest springs from the 40 were to wide so about 1/8th inch was taken off of each side where the "U" bolts passed. the springs went into the existing spring pack and new alignment bolts were run through the slots. the long end of the springs went toward the back fo the truck.

Once reasembled, and set on the ground, the sag was gone. highly gone. to the point of about an inch taller. Prior to this install, the truck rode like a buckboard. rough and tumble. the added springs have actually improved the ride.

It cost an afternoon and was well worth being as cold as i got. im sure its been done before and even writen up better in the forum, but ive only made it to about page 15.

for my next question, exhaust. 4 into 1 headers or 4 to 2 to 1. its a daily driver. im planning on redoing the whole system at the same time as well. something around a 2 1/4 inch all the way back. any recomedations on the header and cat/muffler selection. power is paramount, but a degree of quietness would be highly appreciated. thanks for any info in advance.

i got to help him install the free lft and really like it also, really easy to do just find a guy with a 40 who has lift springs and get them foe cheap and fix the classic sag in the rear.
