the w series was behind the fuel injected motors g series in the carbed motors.do the test in all gears listen carefully.the s***er bushings are accessable after you take the cup off the shigter houshing.there is cup holding the s***er lever in the housing, push down and turn and it will pop up.It is spring loaded. Then the shifter will comne right out.no gaskets or seals involved.guarantee the bushings are cracked and crumbled.

cool thanks. as far as i can tell i can't hear any noise but i'll listen really carefully.

jhnLennon, I respect your opinion, I just disagree with it. It does not match my 20+ year experience with many Toyotas.

all right i took the shifter housing apart and i definetly need a new bushing. there is nothing but little bits of plastic everywhere. so i'm going to have my dad order one from marlin crawler. is there one that i can get for the transfercase? because when i took the little boot off the transfercase shifter there was a totally different setup from the transmission shifter housing. the little yellow boot thing at the end of the shifter was fine but should i replace it while it's there?

dont worry about the transfer case, and yes replace the cup on the bottom of the shifter for the tranny

i ordered the bushings and they'll be here on tuesday. i'll let everyone know how it goes.
