This is really innovative and shows great workmanship. I looked at Sony marine stereo's for mine as they had a
small round remote face. So you have a 20 wire flat connector extension cord essentially? I still haven't installed a stereo. How is the sound from the rear? Do you still use the dash speaker?

Thanks cruiserpilot and sorry for the late reply!

Yes, the 20 wire connector is essentially an extension cord. I have one small lead (4 inches) running from the faceplate to the MIL spec connector and one longer lead (~3 feet) running from the head unit.

The sound in the rear could be improved which is why I'd like to eventually put some larger speakers in the panels behind the rear seat. But for now, since I'm usually in the front seat while driving ;) , I'm pretty satisfied with sound quality.

I'm not using the dash speaker anymore. That speaker location never really made sense to me and I don't wanna mess around with trying to find a replacement for it.

Hope that helps!

So, I finally got the speakers installed last weekend! The sound is SO much better.

I went with Rockford Fosgate R1525x2. I made a spacer out of MDF to accommodate for the thicker speaker and so I could use the existing mounting points in the door.

Out with the old!

Nice idea dude!!! I ended up doing Fosgate 6 1/2" in my doors and did a backer plate to the panel from MDF. Panels still attach without any bulge to the door or anything. Then did 6x9s in the rear panels which increased the sound exponentially.
