85 4Runner detachable sunroof/moonroof? HOW DO I DETACH?

Okay , I am not a complete idiot, but I feel really stupid because I can't figure out how to detach the "detachable" sunroof in my 1st generation 1985 4runner. I have owned several Land Cruiser but this is my first 4Runner and I just got it less than a week ago. The moonroof is cracked and I want to replace it but I can't figure out how to get the old one out. The owner's manual says to remove this little latch and then just push up and pull back on the glass, but that hasnt worked for me. HELP!!!

the little wind deflector was broken and hanging up on the roof
