I am really thinking about pulling the 3040le? automatic outta my 85 4runner......at first i thought the factory auto was cool/unique and sorta nice because it pulls double duty as a second vehicle for me....but i cant take the lack of power....i have 2 parts donors to pull the 5-speed tranny/tcase,pedal assembly, master and slave,etc..they are

an 84 singlecab/longbed 4x4 22r...

or

an 87 ext cab 4x4 22re

would the five speed gear ratios be different on the 2 diff trucks?

what is the low gear on a 5-speed versus the low in the automatic?

I got 5.29 gears and still you put it in drive and floor it and it makes noise then slowly begins to move.....

.....i need a V8:rolleyes:

thanx alot for any insight

No Automatics have a low 1st gear... forget that...

5:29's in an Auto are what you need for 33's... What size tire are you running? (let me guess...38's?)

More than likely, 4WDs with the same trannys have the same gears... more than likely...

And you don't need a V8... Maybe a V10? That makes about as much sense...

I think they are both around 3.95:1. But I'd go with the 87, because it's a W56, and is a little better than the G52 in the 84.

I was not referring to the auto, it's 1st gear is probably 2.8:1.

The G52 (carbed) 1st gear is 3.92:1
The W56 (EFI) 1st gear is 3.95:1

I do have 5.29's with 33" tires......

maybe im just power greedy...

the V8 was a joke.......wouldnt bother because ive never swapped in a motor with EFI and to go from the 22re to a carbed SBC seems silly...

hopefully the 5-speed will add some noticable power.....

Ill save the V8 for the FJ40 truggy
