So I got my truck back on the road, and to be honest, it runs pretty well. However, I've been smelling the exhaust and it smells way too rich to me. Using the OTRAMM video method to adjust the carb, it seems to run better, but it actually made it richer. I didn't use the vacuum gauge as was used in the video, but I used 2 different tachs (one digital and one analog) to find the RPM.

However, I think the problem may be that there is no catalytic convertor on this truck, and looking at the parts list, it had one. My hesitation to that being the final answer is that I've had lots of vehicles without cats (motorcycles, old british cars, old italian car, etc) and while they have a distinct smell, it isn't that super rich choking exhaust fumes smell like the 60 has right now.

So I'm wondering where to start looking into this issue, or if I'm chasing a ghost and that's just how a 2F works?

Here's another picture, just because I love looking at it

Is it desmogged? Do you have vacuum leaks?

I’m desmogged with Sniper EFI and just recently removed the cat. It has an odor, but I wouldn’t call it nauseating.

The only way to know if it’s actually rich would be to hook up an air/fuel ratio gauge.

Pic of engine bay? If it’s desmogged properly, you don’t need many vacuum lines.

When was the last time the carburetor was serviced? They do shellac from time to time. And if the power piston shellacs, the power valve will be open all the time, and you can't adjust that 'out'.

Picture of frozen power valve on a carb I rebuilt for a client a few years ago.

Figured I'd close the loop on this one; I guess at some point of me moving things around under the hood I had bumped the BVSV that was on the thermostat housing, and it snapped. It was very old and brittle. And when I looked it up, these hoses are what closes the choke plate fully when the engine is warm. Also, when it broken I had a little vacuum leak, which also explains high idle.
