I am already thinking of my next project (sickness!) after I finish my BJ74 restoration and LHD conversion. I might end up selling my restored FJ40. Since I drive my projects, the FJ40 might get ignored in favor of the BJ74

I have an extra good complete 12V 3B Diesel with H55 trans and transfer case. I thought about putting it in the FJ40, but it is done--really don't want to change it. I am thinking of getting a 79-83 minitruck and swapping in the diesel, maybe adding a Turbo while I am at it.

Anybody ever do this? I would intent this to be pretty stock looking pavement pounder-daily driver.

Post up your thoughts/experience/issues encountered

I am very slowly in the process of doing this, its been done by others as well (mine's an 89 though)

I notched the frame rails to use the 3B rad as its a bit taller, and made the piece of sheetmetal across the front clip removable to get the 3B in.

Mines a RHD 4 door so Im converting it to LHD, I havent done anything on it for a few months as I need to get motivated to find a firewall out of a domestic LHD to swap into it.

3b in solid axle pickup.

I have been thinking about a similar swap for a couple of years. I have an 85 Xtracab that I picked up for cheap with a seized 22re and a spare 3b out of a bj42. I've heard issues about getting a h55f and split case to fit under and between a 79-85 cab and frame rail. I was thinking maybe using a r151 or the stock w56 with an adapter, THoughts? Read somewhere you can take a cast steel 3b (early) bell housing cut it and weld it to a 4/6 cyl adapter plate.

How are your projects going? any input?
