I am consistently getting 20 mpg running 2000 rpm in my 6.2 80 without turbo, what tire size are you running? Seems like you should be able to get into the low 20's from my expience.

I assume you're still running the 411 gears from your 80 series right? Also, are you still using the original awd transfer case?

The fj60 has 373 gears, so my rpm should be arount 1800 at 60 (I think - no tach yet).

Did you buy a tach signal converter to make your tach work?

Sorry for the delay. In answer to your questions.
I am still using the 4.11 gears. I have a 700R4 transmission going to the Toyota Transfer Case.
I have a Tiny Tach digital tachometer installed. I originally planned to use the digital tach to synchronize my factory tach using a signal converter but am happy with the Tiny Tach so haven't gotten around to it.
You can look up a converter online to input your tire size, trans ratio and final drive to calculate your rpm at certain speeds.
Checked you pictures, looks great, would love to drive the turbo!

It drives great, and is stout enough to tow, even uphill. I had a '95 fzj80 before though, and really miss the ride and amenities of that car. Leaf springs are not the most comfortable ride...

I'll look up the tiny tach and see if it'll work.

The Tiny Tach is great, for the price I highly recommend it. I haven't towed with my 6.2 yet but now that I have a new IP it feels like it will pull most anything even without the turbo, feels very strong. Throw in a little elevation though and I am sure that would change quickly. I have had 2 FJ62's and loved both of them, it would be fun to have one around to drive occasionally.
Enjoy it.

I did not replace the injectors. I have had intermittent problems with the engine since I got it. I tried replacing the filters, fuel pump etc but the problems never really went away. I didn't suspect the IP because it would run well for a day or two then would start surging, idle poorly just things like that, it never ran really well more than a couple days, it was getting really frustrating. Finally during the course of about 24 hours it got so bad I couldn't drive it. It lurched home and sat in the driveway surging severely and smoking alot. It had good fuel pressure, no air in the lines and new filters so I figured it must be the IP. I replaced it and it has been great ever since. I now have 1,000 miles on it and have loved every minute of it! Don't know why I am considering a 1HD-T conversion when I like this engine so much now. I played with the timing of my IP for a couple days. I had it set where the old one was and it was too advanced (just judging by the noise) so I backed it off a couple times. I could probably advance it a bit more now but it runs fine where it is.

I'm looking for any info from anyone who has had success with an Isuzu 4 cyl. (4HEI) swap into an FJ60.
I have an '86 that has a small block Chevy hooked to the stock 4-speed, but I'm looking to drop in a
diesel. I'm not sure of any new regulations for California as of 01/01/2000, other than smogging '98 &
newer oil burners. How about a G.M. 6.5? They put them in 1/2 ton Blazers through the 90's.
The 4HEI is out of an Isuzu/GMC NPR cabover type heavy duty commercial truck, so I don't know if
that'll fly or not with DMV/SMOG REF/CARB or the likes. All of your input is greatly appreciated, I love
this web-site.

You might want to post that question in the diesel tech section. Since this is in a thread with a different topic you won't get very many responses
