8274-50 spool heat?

I hear about winches building up a lot of heat at the spool, requiring a heat guard for the synthetic winch ropes. Does anyone know if the 8274-50 builds up heat. I would think that because of the design of the 8274 that the spool would remain cool. I'm just trying to decide if I need the heat guard on the first wrap with this model. I don't want to mess up my new $$$ rope.

Not a problem with the 8274.

The ones that have problems have the brake build in to the drum, but the 8274 has an external brake.

What Pin Head said. I recommend a syn line guard on 8274s if the drum is too rough from running cable. Heat from spooling out is not a problem.
