Keeping in mind prices vary sometimes due to local demand or availability, $150 - $200 is a fair price if it's complete and in very good condition. I typically find them for around $150 in the same condition as the one in the c/l ad. I've been able to resell the axle tube and diff for $50 - $75 (for a quick sale) to recover some of the cost.

I just paid $400 for a 60 front axle and PS box+hoses (and I probably overpaid but the timing fit my schedule) that were in great shape. I'd pay ~$175 for this and like reddingcruiser says, sell the unused components to offset some of the cost.

If you do get it, these things are HEAVY so have a hoist or a few guys around to load it!

got it

Thanks. I figured pretty much the same thing.

I did get it, and yes it is indeed HEAVY, though I did manage to get it unloaded on my own, without dropping it .

I paid $150 for an axle.

Figure between the housing and third i can get $100 of that back. And then i have a huge box of spare parts (i'm doing 6 shooters, longs, etc) mainly bought the axle for the aisin hubs.

If you get a round wheel cart you can place one onto it and it makes it easy to wheel around. I've loaded and unloaded axles by myself with no problem.

I couldn't see why you would want a mini-truck axles though (unless you don't have a 40). The 40 series are better.

I paid $175 for all of the parts needed for a disk brake conversion-an axle without the 3rd and axle housing. For me, it was well worth it because I didn't have to transport it or tear it down.

If you're only buying it for the knuckles out to do a disc brake conversion, that's not a bad deal. Keep in mind those older housings are not as desirable, there is no stiffening truss on it. Not a big deal, several places sell them now, but it's more $$ and work.
