How are you guys figuring out which are closing?

My wife noticed posters all over the front of one local store.

I went back to the same store today to try and get a few more things for the work sh¡tta, but everything I wanted was gone

Pretty easy for me, it’s every store in my area in WA State. I believe the big deals are only available out west in CA/OR/WA etc as they’re closing stores and distribution centers.

Corporate greed focused on maximum profits and people are lining up to pick up the scraps when the suits have left the buffet with some tasty treats.

They will pitch it as only a few jobs lost and look to raise profits again. Meanwhile it hits more than just the Joe that works behind the counter. Folks still really don't understand supply chains do they? One more empty building and Amazon and Ebay just gained a bunch more DIY mechanic buyers.

"The car part supplier's gross profit increased 11% in the third quarter this year compared to the nearly 37% increase in last year's third quarter. Executives said the drop in profits will force the closure of more than 700 locations by the middle of 2025."

I asked here in Georgia and was told by some employees that there would not be many closed in this state. They seemed pretty pumped about not loosing their jobs. They may not really know the details but they didn't seem worried at all.

I just drove by one of the two near me and there's a "Now Hiring!" sign in the window. No clearance signs. I'm guessing all the store that are closing are tied to the distribution centers that are closing.

Seems to be a West Coast thing. I wouldn't miss the stores in my area if they disappeared off the face of the earth. I buy consumables at Walmart or Amazon. They never seem to stock anything I need. By the time they can get me a Denso reman starter, it would've arrived at my door from Amazon for cheaper. Not to mention the worthless employees and bogus lifetime returns policy for certain parts. Their phone support is excellent though, really makes up for their stores.

I have kept a bit of an eye on the advance website and have hit a few local stores, but if you have any interest or need for reman alternators or starters have a look. I’m seeing and ordered a starter for <$25 and alternators for <$20, alternator only has a $1 core charge.

YMMV but I’ve placed a couple of orders and they appear to be processing and shipping.
