Hi

I’m trying to diagnose a shuddering/vibrates on acceleration it’s seems to happen more on initial acceleration around 2000 if I smooth it out it’s not as prevalent does not happen in neutral ?

many thanks!

yes it got a little better when I replaced the stabilizer bar definitely more noticeable under harder load - acceleration

I would look at the driveshafts and UJ's drive vehicle it to get them warm and then give them a good shake when there is no load on them.

Also the radius arm bushes could be shot allowing the axle to rotate a little changing the drive line angle under load.

Soft motor/trans mounts can bring on vibes under load, in particular the trans mount if you have had a fluid leak?

Was this something that just happened overnight or crept up slowly?

Regards

Dave

Is the shuddering coming from the engine or the driveline/axles?

It sat since 2005 not shure of the history I also replaced the gas tank and fuel pump to initially get it going

These things are very very difficult to diagnose over the net. I would sit down and have a good think about it. When it was first noticed, had you just been off road, again list ALL repairs, drip feeding 'this was done' oh 'and then this' is not helpful.

Do the thinking first, had someone recently borrowed the car, kerbed it?

regards

Dave

We cross posted there, but the above is what I am talking about, I did not know you had only just got the vehicle, so go right through it and get a bar on on the drive train. If you are not familiar with cars (or the 80 in particular) I would get a knowledgeable mechanic to look at it. Frozen UJ's are common enough to warrant replacing and are not expensive, if you are doing it yourself check the yolks are correctly phased.

K thanks!!

Just to check in found the shudder it’s coming from the front differential any words of advice

thanks!

Rumi: How was that diagnosed?

You mentioned in your original post that you replaced a birfield joint (before the problem started)? Was the steering knuckle properly packed wtih grease
when you opened it back up and what was the condition of the spindle bushing on that side?

Did you find out what caused the shudder? I am having same problem but my mechanic thinks it is transmission related.
