Hi

Havent posted here for 100 years, hope it is still a good as it was when we had the LCML.

I am looking for information on header design for my 79 series 4500EFI, I recall when I was previously active on the list during my FJ45 days, that there was someone designing a 57" header that produced remarkable torque improvments on the F2 motor.

Does anyone have such a design to share or know who is into this sort of upgrade on this sort of motor.

Thanks
Earth

you mean 2F engine??

i dont know. but try asking this question in the corresponding forum. this is the pickup forum.

and damn you are old. :flipoff2:

I mean a 2F motor yes.

Damn I am old, you are right.

And my FZJ79R is indeed a pickup, and it has a 4500EFI motor in it which is also known as a 1FZ (I think), but I may have lost my memory, I am not sure, I think I may be too old to remember.

there has got to be headers out there for that engine. There are superchargers for it, so it seems someone would make headers. I hear that that engine is bitchin, what do you think about it?

pics?

Hi Purple

I don't get the ***** adjective, the motor is pretty hot, peaks at 430NM and 165KW measured at the wheels, not to bad seeing as how it has never been opened and only has a modified header and Dastek piggy back engine management system.

The main attraction I have to the straight six is the low down torque that it develops making it one of the most manageable vehicles to drive offroad.

Toyota down rates these motors by the standard of peripheral stuff hung onto this motor, the standard EFI management system and exhaust manifold are dogs.

Hi Donald,

Any help in your quest to be found here on Mud will most likely be in the '80s forum. That's the only rig which we got that used that engine.

You'll just have to weed through all of the "how many cupholders", "best oil", and "dealership ripped me off" threads. :(
Other than the Toyota Superchargers (now discontinued) and reprogramed chips for the electronic controls, I haven't come acros much high performance stuff for the '80 series.

Hi All

Fllowing some useful advice Mark W gave me off forum yesterday, I began to investigate the sites related to tuning of headers and came across some very usefull info about materials used for the construction of headers, and more specifically the use of Stainless steel of the right quality for the construction material.

In addition the Downey offroad site has some useful observations and test results for the 2F motor which are probably not that far off the mark for the 4500EFI motor.

I will check the 80s site as suggested, the 80 series and the 100 series were both built with this motor amongst others, will post my final conclusions here for those interested.

Thanks

The five letter word is less offensive than that 2F word if you ask me. As far as a cruiser engine I'd check out the cruiser forums, even if it is a pickup :flipoff2:. If it wasn't originally equipped with a 20r, 22r, 22re, 22rte, or a 3vz. most of us might get a little confused. I haven't seen a LOT of companies that make a header for the 2F but I do know that Spectre Offroad and Man-a-fre make headers for it, and might even make them for the 3fe etc. etc. Hope I helped. And the :flipoff2: wasn't meant to offend, it's a welcome back gesture.

earth- I would like to put a 1FZ-Fe into my heep. Sorry for the 5 letter word.

'sfar as that h33p goes, any change can only be an improvement.

I dont know what the other fellow means about the 2F motor, it was a real beaut in the 70s when it first came on the market and if you take the EFI and cr4p off of my motor and put standard type carb in its place, it wont do anything the 2F wasnt already doing 30 years ago.
