Good evening,

My 79 Toyota has a leak in the steering box, and I was planning to rebuild it if possible. However, I’m not sure which power steering box it is. It has Toyota stamped on it, but that’s the only identifier I can see.

Does anyone have a guess about what the previous owner installed?

Thanks!

Thank you.
So is it an actual factory box for the FJ40, AKA orgional eqpt? That would be sort of cool.
I seem to have aleak in it as it is dripping off the rear where the 4 bolts in a square pattern are. Bad thing is the former owner added very nice headers but it will make it a little tough to get off so I wanted to order parts first so it was ready to go.

Yea well its always something. I would take off the fender before I would take off a sealing header but you have to do what you have to do to get to stuff. Seal kit might fix a leak, but if a shaft or bearing is weak, new seals might not last so long.

Does it have a heat shield attached on the side next to the heater? 40 series had one mini truck steering box didn't. A picture from cut out in the wheel well for the steering will tell if it has the original pedestal for 40 series or aftermarket to changed the angle for the mini truck steering box.
