I have a friend that bought a '79 CJ7 304 V8 with a 3-speed transmission. He wants a 4 speed. The truck is driven on the street and never wheeled. What are his options? Is a Jeep 4 speed available from some other model? Is is a bolt-in deal? What other parts will he need (belhousing, transfercase, crossmember, driveshafts, clutch, clutch release mechanism, ??????????????). What needs to be fabricated?

TIA

I called Novak and they answered all my questions. Their modified Borg-Warner T18, T19 or NP435 all bolt up to the Dana 20 transfercase...same bellhousing, clutch and clutch release menchanisms. Driveshaft lengths change. The AX15 is the choice if an OD is desired but requires a new bellhousing and a hydraulic clutch conversion.

Just incase anyone cared.
