Does anyone out there have a factory emissions manual covering '79-80 FJ40's? I have a totally stock 1980 FJ40 which has a few vacuum hoses disconnected.

I am trying to figure out what vacuum lines go to the rectangular component attached to the side of the carb (see below). No doubt a diagram from a manual would help me to figure that issue as well as others.

Thanks,
Marcel

I did a bit of searching and came across a post where a fellow Mudder inherited a bastardized '78...Jim C wrote:

I will rectify that, but am still after a vac diagram if anyone has it for the '79-80.

I don't think I have ever seen that emissions manual on the Web in any format. If you really want it you can purchase a copy from Toyota Publications. (800) 622-2033 I know it is small and hard to read but the emissions sticker on your hood will show you how the hoses route.

The description you found is correct for a '78 but my emission manual for a '79 has gone missing.

For 78 era carbs: The lower tube on the HIC connects to manifold vacuum on the carb insulator base. The top one goes to the slightly angled fitting (right above the HIC in the picture you posted) on the air horn. I think the check valve (white/blue/black cylindrical thingy) should be connected to the TP (little flying saucer gizmo to the right of your HIC) and then to a computer controlled vacuum source.

Get the '79 manual from the source above. They ship out fairly fast and you won't have trust dorks like me.

John Smith and Numby thanks for replying. I'll give Toyota Publications a call. I noticed right after I received an order from Spector that they too offer that manual in reprinted form - doh.

On the 79-80, the upper hose from the HIC goes to a nipple on the air cleaner.

And the check valve goes in the hose to the CB.

And there is a clip under the front air horn screw that should be in the rear corner by the ICS.

and.... Have fun with that. You've got your work cut out.:wrench:

Here is a link to a scan of the emissions manual and some photos of my '80 FJ40 emissions mess...

Good luck!
