Well, the time has come for me to sell my '78 FJ40. This is my 6th Land Cruiser in over 19 years of cruiser ownership. It is by far the best one I have ever owned. It is my preferred year model (1978) with my favorite color (Olive Brown) and has all of the features/upgrades to improve on the already awesome stock offering. In addition, it is virtually rust free and runs great. When I found it, for me it was the "Holy Grail" of cruisers. As crazy as this may sound, therein lies the problem. For me, it is too nice to use like I now want to use a Cruiser. I have long been a TLCA member, but only from afar. Until shortly after I acquired this beauty, there was no local chapter near me. My cruiser activities before the formation of the local chapter to which I belong were strictly relegated to going on Sunday drives and showing it off like a proud Papa. Now that I am associated with a great group of cruiser enthusiasts who are very active, I want to move to a vehicle that I can take out on the trails and not be bothered if it takes a beating. Please don't misunderstand me; this vehicle is completely capable of negotiating even the most difficult terrain. I just can't get past the thought that to me it is too nice for that. Below is a good description of my vehicle and as well as a link to pictures. I would welcome any questions or comments from this forum. I can be reached via e-mail at aschwing@cox.net

My asking price on this forum is $23,500. If it doesn't sell here, it goes to eBay, where I am sure I will set a reserve that is higher. I realize that the Mud Forum may not be the best place to try and sell this since most of the folks here are hard core “cruiser heads” that hit the trails, but I thought I'd start here because no group knows more about Land Cruisers.

I'd wheel it. Thats what they were made for.

Looks like my vehicle has sold on ebay for the "buy it now" option at $23,500. I've received the deposit via paypal and talked with the buyer. It seems as though it's his intention to use it for an overland expedition in South America over a 3 year period. I'll ask him to send photos. If he's agreeable, I'll start a thread on his travels to show where he and the cruiser have been.

Congrats! It would be cool to see it on it's travels.

SOLD

Well, I almost shed a tear when the 40 left the driveway today, but I am excited about starting my search for another.....one that I will have no reservations about using the way these vehicles were intended to be used. To all who contacted me about their vehicles as possible replacements, if they're still available, I plan to dedicate my time over the next few weeks to focus on a few projects I need to finish up and then contact you all. As for this listing and thread, I guess it is officially over. Many thanks to all who offered advice and responded. I hope to see you on a trail somewhere in the future! The "Mud" community is truly an asset to all of us who love our Land Cruisers.
