One big port goes to a line to the firewall, but the other port has no line. Where does this go? I am missing some smog equipment, but I guess I need to cap it if it goes to something I dont have, i.e. air pump, charcoal can, etc...

I am having a problem of the truck wanting to die when I come to a stop after it has warmed up, thinking the lack of vacuum may be affecting the timing advance?

Mine attaches to a nipple on the aircleaner. It's purpose is to keep condensate out of the dizzy.

Yup. x2.

The larger one that goes to the firewall keeps falling off the distributor cap as well....time for some RTV...]

Eew. Try cutting 1/2" off the hose instead, or flip it around. It's probably old, stretched and dry.

My '79 has the same issue. The larger one that goes to the firewall keeps falling off the distributor cap as well....time for some RTV...
I'm debating between an OEM non-USA distributor (I have a non-USA carb) or an DUI unit, I dunno? They cost the same essentially.
Input?

Neither of those distributors are as good as what you currently have. The only better OEM electronic one would be a large body FJ60.

You know my wife?

Any issues/tricks installing a large body 60 series distributor on the 40?

The plastic piece that goes into the top of the distributor on mine is worn, not the hose, hence the RTV idea.

Thanks!

You are talking about the lines on the actual cap versus the two lines (on late 40's) from the advance diaphragms on the side of the dizzy, right? The lines on top of the cap have nothing to do with the timing advance, while the ones on the side do.

For the two lines on the actual plastic dizzy cap, the smaller one goes through the firewall to a small filter; this is just a fresh air source. The larger one is connected to a Vacuum Control Valve that in turn is connected to intake manifold vacuum and the air cleaner. This system actively purges the Ozone that builds up inside the distributor, and sends it to the air cleaner to be burned, so that your distributor does not blow up. Not sure what year the VCV system was put on; it is part of the emission control (smog) package. Here is a (simplified) schematic of how it is hooked up:

Yes I was 1911, the bigger one goes to the firewall and the smaller one I ran to the port on the side of the air cleaner directly above it.
