Ready to put it all back

Used a stock gasket and ultra copper THIS time, duhhh. Anyways, ready to button it up.

The gear cover revisited

Had to repair my temp mechanical insanity, straightened the cover flange using a vice, concrete floor, brassy and straight edge. Knocked the holes down on the vice, the flange up on the floor. All straight.

Ya, thanks Coolerman. I like to think stubborness is my strong suit, seeing how brains is coming in a distant third. You can use it as a how not to guide maybe. As opposed to say Trollholes big gay 2f build (very nice), ceptin the paint (of course).

In the small groove

Another replay picture I suppose. Buttoned it all up using loctite blue on the big bolts. Tightened to a light torque. Pulled out the old crankshaft pulley (one small groove, one large, speedy sleeve) and mounted it. The Large groove project is just gonna have to wait for the big amp alt $.What to see? Hmmmm, hey check it out ss bolts, ya thats right, the water pump too! NO, hella no not those engine mounts bolts, thems grade there. Partial of the SOR coolant hose kit, go there I tell ya, the hoses and clamps, TOP FLIGHT.

Skipping the details

What to see again, maybe just more eye candy. Its' running. Did the cam break in routine again. 4 valve sets down the road and rock solid, No noise, no weird gaps. New cam has much better behavior under power. More power, torque, less detonation, Only apparent at high speed, high load extreme. Residual poor performance, slight bugaboo at 45mph or so when not warmed up. Rough idle persists. I blame it on uneven carbon build up, tortured carb. Thinking a new 38/38 weber, maybe a new 32/36 what do ya think? One thing for sure though, Under power this thing is a kick in the pants, no evidence of missing at all, as much power and torque as hoped for.

What vacuum are you pulling?

Glad you asked Idave. I'm running 12 to 13 in merc at idle, 22 revving the engine in the driveway. I'm thinking of giving it the tape your vacuum gauge to the windshield test, heard that one here, Poser me thinks.

That's in line with what my refurbished F155 did at first. After ~200 miles I'm seeing 14.5-15.5 at idle, depending on the day (not that I understand why it changes). In some ways, I like having the autometer vac gauge (Poser suggested) mounted on the steering column, in other ways, I think it drives me nuts wondering why it is what it is at times. :)

Ya, I know of what you speak, I like the ones that suggest your mileage, almost makes poor a goal, punch it to see how bad it can get.

I figure that much of the time inches Hg=mpg.

Very informative 2F engine build write-up! This thread will come in handy in the future.

Although I didn't really need convincing that outsourcing a full rebuild was the better choice for me, this thread proved it. I lack both the knowledge and the patience to do this - kudos to you, sir.
