My 70 steers just fine but a friend dropped by and he complained that while driving and steering he heard steering crunching sounds ! I said lets check the leaf pack and make sure its all torched down to correct ft lbs.
That done it still made a knock sound when the steering wheel was turned absolute right and again absolute left. His power steering fluid is ok. Yet we are not sure of what is making the sound ???

Further... he experiences this during normal driving and steering slightly.

What are some possibilities ?

Thanks
Mac

If it's the same as mine, one of you look at the front leaf springs while one of you turns the wheel from side to side and observe the leafs. My front ones make a noise and if you look at them when one is turning the wheel you will see that the leaf springs move a little from side to side. Don't know if the centering pin is broke. Will be installing a new suspension as soon as it gets in next month.

The Centre bolt / king pin in the middle of your leaf springs might be Broken my old work ute use to have the same noise and the leaf packs would move when steering

Tyres rubbing on the inside rear of the arch?

Some people move the axle forward 25-30 mm by redrilling the center hole on the perch for 35" or larger tires. It's a simple thing, but
it creates a conflict with the steering link and drag link by binding. It could be the steering stabilizer
is rubbing or binding.
