so, according to the pretty dye i added to the engine, my 7.3 d.i. is leaking at the oil cooler orings to the filter head. i read the fact manual and the first fifteen steps basically equate to

step one...pull engine.

who's done one before and are there tricks. if i have to do the fifteen b.s. steps to pull this thing, i'll just make my nice concrete driveway look like asphalt.

Unbolt the motor mount on driver side and raise engine with a jack to gain clearance needed to get it out in one piece.... or it can be taken out in pieces and reinstalled the same..... you didn't state what year model? but '94/'97 had some issues with de-funk filter head housings and a updated housing is available, here is info if needed.....

rig's a 95. ordered the parts from ih. my ex works there, so i got employee markup...about $20. it looks like the filter head end won't be too bad to get to. the other end looks hideous to get to. plan is to try to get the filter head off, pull the tube out of the other end, replace orings and filter head mounting gasket and reinstall.

sucky thing is, p.o. just replaced coolant in march and i just changed the oil (it was a bit past due).

oh, this can't be good

cooler core is also horribly rusty, but my ex's employee discount still puts a new core at $350, so it better hold out.

no info on the 7.3 coolers on dieselstop, and colo powerstroke changed websites and lost all the old info :frown: so i'm winging it. fairly straightforward so far. only issues have been trying to get it all apart without damaging the fragile looking core, and i see lining it up with the other head may be difficult also.

for the next poor sap to have to do this...when ford says the ends get pressed on...that's not a suggestion.

how much pressure does it take to break the teeth on a rachet strap:confused:

FYI, I'd replace that. I've done many and if it is a crusty as the pics look, I'd start with new.

the black stuff appears to be chunks of silicone. i had a hard time finding the leak. i thought it was the filter housing itself, but i bought a dye kit, that's how i found that it was the orings between the housing and the core.

What is the part number (ford and/or international) for the cooler pipe itself (item #5 in the diagram)? Mine has a nice pinhole & this is the only part I need. Also, what year models will fit for a 95 7.3?
