Hello all,

I'm prepared to take all the heat on this one, but I'm 1/3 way through it so there's no turning back. I'm putting a 6BT Cummins in my 1987 Troopy. Previously I had a 3B in it that I turbo'd and intercooler, new injectors, cranked up the fuel, boost etc etc but it still wasn't enough.

I pulled a 6BT from a 92 Ram 2500. I have a rebuilt NV4500 and with the help of Advanced Adapters, going to mate it to the stock Toyota Tcase so I can run Toyota ujoints, driveshafts and axles.

She's in. Used the AdventureVehiclesNW high ac adapter and components to move the AC up, new tensioner etc.

Serp belt on. Front oil fill neck delete. Valve cover fill mod. Engine back out to add support/gussets to the mounts, then prime and paint new metal. Also need to remove oil pan and shave down 2 inches along with the oil pickup tube. The oil pan is 10" deep and I only have 1" pinion clearance. And thats AFTER installed the 200kg overload spring lift kit from Iron Man 4x4.

Proposed rad. Will need pusher E-fans. No room for crank fan or clutch.

No, the hood will not fit. No I don't want to do a body lift, yet. Yes, I will be cutting a big hole in the hood. I have a spare hood that I can hack up. Can anyone say Roadkill?!?!?

Interesting.

For cutting a hole in the hood, if you have some good fab skills you could create a sick hood scoop.

Also, is there no way you can lower the engine down so it doesn’t go through the hood? Or will the engine hit the oil pan?

Can't lower the engine any more. Currently, the oil pan only has 1/2" clearance from the top of the front driveshaft pinion flange. Can't move the engine any further back due to firewall. I'm ok with a cool hood scoop. This thing is an ex ambulance from Iran, she's seen things. It fits the build perfectly.

This is so sick to see. Hope you've got some awesome engine mounts, the shaking you'll experience with the 6BT is going to be quite robust.

Hood?

Screw the hood! Go FULL REDNECK and send it!

Besides, you need to reduce the weight of the front end to compensate for the behemoth. I will be curious to see how the bushings, steering links, tie rods, etc do over time. Maybe there are some HD options out there for those components.

Best of luck with the build,
