Well, I took the plunge on what I hope is a good camping fridge. I had several Home Depot gift cards and it really helped with the price.

Online price was 529.00 with free shipping.

65 Qt. Portable Fridge / Freezer-FM-65G at The Home Depot

I ordered the cover from another site. However, I should have this in a few days and will report back. Seems to have gotten good reviews as well.

a clone of the Edgestar 63L apparently. Mine is doing great. Lots of info on Edgestars here and elsewhere.

Thanks e, seems the Edgestar is made by Whynter... Same item with different badging/label.

Also, seems the Whynter is a tad cheaper than the Edgestar.

Is this the regular price or is there some sort of promotion going on? This looks like the route I'll end up going when the time comes.

Yes, it's been reported that the Edgestar is the Compact Applicances private label and is made by Whynter. The former is currently $549 with free shipping at Compact appliances.
I've seen the Whynter at $529 with free shipping on Amazon.
One might save you a few bucks if you otherwise have to pay a hefty sales tax on HD buys (almost 10% in the PRK). (Return and repair policy might matter too, though.)

Strangely, the 45qts is more expensive than the 65 at HD currently.

It's good that they are starting to sell them everywhere. More parts availability in the future.

Whynter does make a transit bag for it. Seen that on Amazon too.

I jumped at the cheaper price for the bigger fridge. Yes, Amazon has had it for 529.00 w/ free shipping but, not for some time now.

The price I got from Home Depot is the best deal I came across recently.

Oh, for other people shopping... I think they are even cheaper at Overstock.com but I haven't looked in awhile.

Prices are bouncing due to the summer buzz. If you are watching at the right time you can get it really cheap..

However, it arrived today with the transit bag. I'm pleased and will keep you posted on the performance as I use it.

Can you post a pic of it in the truck from a few steps back for size reference? It looks huge in the first pic.

Here ya go. Its not small that's for sure. The lid opens all the way and doesn't hit the roof. In comparison to the 45q.. its 4.5" longer x .5" wider x .5" taller.. Just so you have an idea. The 4.5' in length wasn't that much of a factor but for some it could be a huge deal.

So, I've had it on the 12V supply for almost 48 hrs without starting my cruiser.. Maintained 30 degrees on regular cycle and my cruiser started right up.. Which I doubt while I'm out this won't ever happen..But, it's good to test and also, I do have a good battery at the present time.

I'll try out the fast freeze cycle on 12V next.

If anyone is looking to buy one, Kmart online has them for $436.59 after promo code KMART10PSAVINGS.
No idea how long this offer lasts.

I looked at this through Kmart before I bought mine...they had free shipping but, a 129.00 handling fee. So it was higher price than Home Depot. Also, Kmart says it's mandatory to charge you sales tax as well.

So watch/read the bottom line and the fine print when looking at shipping these.

Update?

Hey just wondering, now that you've had the fridge for a while, any complaints? Still like it? I just ordered one from sierra expeditions, so was just curious.

the home depot description said the fridge will work even at a 30 degree angle. does this mean if im out on the trail i cant tilt it past 30 or i just cant have it plugged in/turned on. not trying to kill a $600 fridge

I'm working on 3 years with mine and it has been completely issue free. I even used it for about 10 months straight as my garage beer cooler. It was on 120V for that time period with a handful of 1-5 day camp trips.

Had it unplugged for about 3 months after our move back to WY from TX. Plugged it in on my FJC and went from 78F to -3F in approx 15 min.

Overall VERY SATISFIED customer and would buy again immediatley.
