Alright so when I do my SAS I plan to lift my rear equivilent the right way with Chevy Springs so I can flex good. The problem is that when my flatbed is done in the next couple weeks I will have about 1" behind my rear shackle mount. Everything I have read says double shackle or move the mount back 4". Double shackle IMO is half assed especially for a daily driver. Obviously I have no place to move it back with lack of frame. So what do I do to keep my wheelbase the same?

No but I have $150 invested in tubing cut to those lengths. Maybe I'm gonna have to leave that 4" if I dont find any other solution...

Cut Off The End Of The Frame, Weld It Shut With Some 3/8" Plate. And Put Your Shackle Mount On The End Of The Frame. Or Just Buy A New Shackle Mount And Move It Back To The Desired Location... Or Just Buy Some Lift Springs!

63" Springs Are Hella Flexible By The Way, We Have Them On Front And Back Of Our Parts Vehical (85 4RNR) And It Has No Shocks. We Can Jump In It An It Has About 1 Foot Of Up Travle, and About 2 1/2 Feet Down Travel.

Rear - 95 Chevy 1/2 Ton Chevy Springs.

Front - 1970 Something Chevy Front Springs.

Good Luck Mayte

If you retain the stock rear mounting location you will need probably a 9" hole to hole shackle. That sticks down pretty bad and can get in the way of a full trail rig. If you keep the tubing you already have, I agree to try to mount the rear hanger on the side of the frame. Then get some 1/4" stock, and drill some holes in it as a test shackle until you get the length you feel works best.

Yeah I'm thinking I'll just leave 4" of frame when I bob it and recut those 2 pieces for the flatbed.

Long story short without going into measurements wich I dont have, bob your frame and reinforce it as well (like FullM3tal said) and use an pivotall ball mount on the end of the frame (like a heims joint/rod end) there are many types avialable and the cool thing is you can "tune" the flexibilty of the springs before you find the "perfect" place to mount the shackle pivot on the end of the frame...... the distance has to be considered when mounting this because too far forward (towards cab)and the shackle will flip up to the rear and to the back of the vehicle, too far forward and the compression will suffer but you will increase wieght carrying capacity (the shackle pointing straight up and down)

I hope I made some of this clear, its a bitch to try and describe suspension function and theory without getting to long winded....IE boring, and it needs to be more descript than just a "it will flex more".;)

understand?:D

so your worried because your flatbed is going to make it too short. You could always cut and section some 3" peices of tube into it to make it long enough. Or you can shorten your wheelbace if its that important not to cut the flatbed to you.

I decided just to leave the 4" behind the shackle mount and not cut it so far. Theres no point in making things more complicated to take 4 more inches off my truck.
