62 4x4 will not disengage

4x4 works fine but will not disengage. 4x4 light stays on as well. Anyone have experience with this?

Try driving in reverse for a few feet and see if that lets you disengage it. There could also be a vacuum issue if you are still vacuum actuated transfer case. High to low shifts ok?

Switch the vacuum lines on the 4WD switch on the firewall. That should disengage 4WD, but to reengage 4WD you will have to reswap the vacuum lines. The vacuum switch solenoid is known to fail.

I tried reverse. Still have to do that in my 97 Tacoma. It’s stuck in H4. I’ll try the vacuum lines.
