5MGE swap?

How would the w56 handle the 7m? Wouldn't I need to find a turbo tranny?

Mine has held up to pulling a 3500lb trailer from one coast to the other twice, several offroad trips and a good general beating on the road

W56 is a dime a dozen. Turbo is pricey for mild gains, and they might be a bellhousing fit issue.

Once you start gettin spendy I would go a different direction.

i just bought one of these

hi guys i just bought one of these with this motor. its an 89 pickup. not sure what year the motor is. anyways the motor swap is sloppy.
and it wont charge. the alternator is charging i just think that the signal wire is getting disconnected and causing an undercharge.
but i need some input. and what year of car should i search for for parts. please help me out i dont know crap about this motor and have a limited supply of tool and places to work on it. its snowing here. and im at collage at wyotech. they wont let me bring it into the shop to work on it. so i need ur guys help

ajfriz, you can also get a V6 4WD (R150) tranny/ TC and use it with a RTE bellhousing...

They were more common in a 2WD...

You just won't have the low 1st gear.

And why the 7 over the 5? :meh:

5MG bore: 3.27" stroke: 3.35"
7MG bore: 3.27" stroke: 3.58"

22r, bore: 3.31" stroke: 3.5"

I was thinking the same swap for my terminally ill 84 (just for the heck of it), but a cam and header for my 20/22R Hybrid just makes tons more sense...

Will the G52 transmission mount to the 5mge with the w58 bellhousing? And will the spline count on the input shaft match the count on the 5mge clutch?

I know that this thread is 7 months old, but I've been running a 5M in my truck for 7 years. I've had no complaints. If anyone wants to know more about this swap drop me a line!

Actually, I'd appreciate it if you gave us all a writeup. This is an interesting build to me, and I'd like to see what wall was involved!

I'd do that, but there are some really good writeups still on the net from when I did my swap and other than a specific details about wiring and modifications in a 84-89 4Runner or 84-88 Pickup, I don't think I could improve on these.

Here's one for a 5m swap written by Andrew Zook. The detail is excellent!

ORN - Supra 5M-GE Engine Swap

This one is a 7m-ge swap by Andrew Hulse, a few details are a bit different than the 5m but mostly it is similiar. Very goo writeup.

If any of you are seriously considering this swap, my complete 5m (rebuilt 30,000 mi.) setup is for sale. Nothing wrong with it, but I have to rebuild my pick-up because of rust and I going to move in a different direction on the rebuild.

I'd love to swap in a stroked 2JZ someday.
