Bought my 200 new in Nov 2019 and got an email reminder from dealer that service is due. Although free, is there any value in doing service on a 4 month old LC with 1100 miles? I know the oil changes are done at yearly (or 10-12k miles).

Appreciate your thoughts.

I am in the same situation. 5 months old with 2,000 miles. I have always performed my own routine maintenance.

My position is that taking your car into a dealer for service carries a certain amount of risk. Taking in your car with only 1100 miles on the odo may do more harm than good.

Here’s the (no towing, no off-roading) recommended service:

5,000 miles or 6 months:
  • Check installation of driver’s floor mat
  • Inspect and adjust all fluid levels
  • Inspect wiper blades
  • Rotate tires
  • Visually inspect brake linings/drums and brake pads/discs
Do what your experience and capabilities make you most confident that you car is being properly maintained.

No

I generally do all my own maintenance, except routine maintenance while under warranty. Reason being that warranty issues are going to be easier to deal with if you have required service history at a dealership. I know this isn't required for warranty, just makes it easier. But I will do things like bring my own oil. When I had to have the front cover leak addressed on my GX and when the evap canister died on my wife's RX450h having service history at the dealership made both of these no questions asked repairs (especially as my wife's was out of warranty on time but very low miles for age; this was a >$1000k repair that Lexus went ahead and warranty repaired).

Keep in mind that if you do your own maintenance you can create your own entries on Toyota.com or Lexus.com (Toyota/Lexus owners website). That way if you sell the vehicle and someone checks the history they will see all of your maintenance activity.

Didn’t know that. — great information. Thanks!
