Have a question about my 94 4runner tranny. Had another transmission put in and won't shift out of first gear? Any help. Thanks.
Engine running? If so, check the clutch adjustment. May not be fully disengaging. If not, why didn't you put the transmission through it's paces before putting it in the truck?

Pretty huge assumption that it's a manual.

If it's an auto - check the TV cable adjustment. If it the trans thinks the throttles pegged all of the time it will hold the shift in first until very high revs. It'll shift, just not where most of us would be comfortable revving the engine to.

If its a manual - check the shifter alignment. If you have more than one of the shifter rails engaged it'll bind up and won't move. The clutch is a hydraulic unit. It might be bad to where it's not moving the clutch fork. It won't be out of adjustment.
