4Runner/Pickup tailgate swap

I was looking at the tailgate on an 87 pickup and it looks like everything mounts in the same place as my 4runner tailgate. I run a Softtopper top so I'm never going to use the back window again, the 4runner tailgate weighs a ton and mines all banged up. Does anyone know if they will swap in and out or what I would have to do to fit a pickup tailgate on it?

It's not a bolt on swap, the tail gate has hinges mounted on the bottom, and the 4Runners have the hinges on the sides. I've seen it done, but there is some fab work involved.
