I was thinking, tailgate, open bed, four doors, probably lighter than a 4Runner, you could put a topper on if you needed to, or even a roof rack over the cab. Thats what I was thinking...

But like I said, I kind of dig the heaviness of the 60 and that big as 2F chugging away.
I'd 100% have a cap on the back of any truck. It's nice to have a covered secure place for your gear.
Like cube said I gots the 40 if I want a heavy trail beast with a growling 2F.

Cube Dweller, Don't forget about the earliest version of the 4RUNNER, the Toyota TREKKER which was built from 81 to 83, basically an older body styled sas gen 1 4RUNNER without the bed mounted roll cage and a few other features.

From wikipedia:

The 1981 model year saw a vehicle development deal between Toyota and Winnebago Industries (primarily) and two other aftermarket customizers. Toyota was attempting to enter the SUV market. The vehicles which resulted from this collaboration were the Toyota Trekker(Winnebago), Toyota Wolverine, and the Toyota Trailblazer(Griffith). All 3 employed the Toyota Hilux 4x4 RV cab and chassis, and an all-fiberglass(the Trailblazer had a steel bed with a fiberglass top) rear section. There were at least 1,500 Trekkers and a much smaller, 400 Trailblazers(only 41 currently registered by the DMV), unknown number of Wolverines sold in North America. Research and development work on the Trekker lead to the development of the Toyota 4Runner (called the Toyota Hilux Surf outside North America), which was released in 1984.

hahaha.

when you find one of those, thats not trashed, i got 4K ill drop on it.
thaks for reminding me of how much i want one, and how much i cant have one. :flipoff2:

IMHO, the third Gen 4Runners are the best.

5VZ V6
or the 3RZ I4 (same power as the 3VZ, but with better reliability, and fuel economy).
coil over fron suspension (vs torsion bars)
factory rear lockers were optional.

They are a little harder to SAS than a second gen, due to the rack and pinion steering, however, I feel that th 5VZ or 3RZ enigne is WELL worth it.

4TH gen 4Runner's are still too expensive. But when the prices come down, I think that the 1GR and 2UZ based runners will be GREAT, despite how ugly they are.
