Hey all,

I posted this in the 40 series as well, but I thought you guys might have more insight. I have an 81 troopy and need to know if both sets of the rear side windows are the same size as the rear side windows on a 40 series. I need new gaskets to go around all the windows and am pretty sure that the rear corners and ambulance doors are the same, but am unsure about the sides.

Here's a pic to make sense of my ramblings.

I can measure a 40 top for you..

edit: 1970 FJ40 Top

(East and West) From outside seal to outside seal it is 34.5 inches.
(North and South) From outside seal to outside seal it is 16 inches.

The later tops with the kick vent windows probably won't work, but they are 27 inches from outside seal to outside seal...and they are not completly round like a troopy. Might give SOR a call and see

Thanks Bull! I'm going to compare them and bring my findings back.

Bull, I measured the windows on the troopy and got 36" by 17.5" which is a little more than your measurements, but is exactly 1.5" off of both.

On the picture is this where you measured from?

I have no concrete evidence, but I always figured they are the same. The lower leading edge of the windows have a longer curve than the other three corners. If you look at a troopy, both windows have that same curve, although it is not needed on the rear one.

Looks like the metal dies for a troopy top where just two 40 hard top dies stuck together.

Just thought of this too, a 1970 hartop had different weatherstripping and maybe glass than say a 73. The early hardtops, while having the same shape of window as later ones, had weatherstripping that was inset so to speak, whereas that troopy and later 40's had weatherstripping that rides on the outside surface of the body, no inset.

So the measurements being off one inch may account for that difference in a older versus newer weatherstrip design.

the older 40 glass and rubber work in the troopy window. they sit in the side vs the troopy glass is further out, the sliders anyway...is why gaskets are different sizes
randy you could weld the bar in for the kick window setup on the later 40's, that would be trick. also same size opening combined...

So...does this mean I can use my current troopy windows and order new rubber gaskets that were meant for the old 40 windows?

Thanks Kina, good idea. Do you have any late model junk hard tops around that I could cut the divider-pieces out of? :D

If I do that, the rear window would sit more flush like the later 40 hard tops. I would need to find a similar replacement solution for the front sliders else they would look funny as compared to the rear pop-out. Guess I'll need to pull the windows and try test fitting.
