I haven’t been in this corner for a long time.

Life is busy, but I’m still working to get my 40, the first 80 and now another all in good working order.

My current project is a wider centered 40 rear.

I had a 40 rear housing (free) laying around and cut it as wide as possible anticipating finding a 80-85 mini truck rear ($300) to slide the tubes into and weld together like many threads have shown. The 83 MT housing I bought was swedged weird and the tubes couldn’t slide into the 40 tubes.

What I figured out is that I can lathe turn the ends of the MT axle to press into the 40 bearing ends, then determine my overall housing assembly with the 96 4Runner shafts ($25).

I’ll try to update this with my progress.

So a delayed and small update, I made use of a 4/10 Friday off and used my boss’ brothers shop lathe to turn the ends down.

I’m sure it will be a bit before I can get to work on the housing, but it’s an update.
