4 Wheel Parts had an issue with their credit card processor recently. They apparently "re-ran" all of the charges from a previous day. They are reversing the charges, but you may want to take a look and make sure. In my case, I spent some $$ there, in-store, on Feb 10 and it was charged to my card again on May 12 and then refunded on May 15. Don't know if this applies to other locations or online orders.

I was told that this was not fraud and the cards weren't compromised. I asked to have my CC info removed from their system, but the guy didn't think they stored it on the 4 Wheel Parts system, just on the processors system. I didn't pursue it beyond that.

Sorry Travis, it's a surprise. You'll just have to wait and see. :)

I heard about the eBay hacking, wondering if we should change our Paypal passwords also since they're usually tied together. Probably a good idea.

The ebay website says that paypal and other financial info was not compromised. But I'm sure it can't hurt to change that, too.

I am pondering the smittybilt 9.5k winch from 4wheel parts, since it is in the same price range as the HF 12k winch. I know it's not a Warn, but for the amount of use I expect it will get, I think a lesser winch is OK. The smittybilt is a better looking unit than the HF, and is IP67 rated. Anyway, they offer an exchange in store type warranty , 2 years for 10% of the winch cost. I may be a repeat customer soon.

Not sure if either one of those winches is a series wound motor vs permanent magnet motor. Always shoot for the series wound, the permanent magnet motors have large magnets glued to the inside of the motor shell, and when they get hot, the glue can fail and the winch is done. The biggest drawback I've had with cheap winches is not being able to free spool them. They say you can disassemble them and change the grease to make it easier, and I believe that because I just rebuild one of my Warn winches and used axle grease in the planetaries, and now I can't free spool the dang thing.

All that being said, look at the line speeds too. I have a $75 dollar Craigslist special Harbor Freight winch on Heathers Jeep and it is agonizingly slow. Like watching paint dry. Usually higher rating = lower gear planetaries and a slower winch.

Thanks for the advice. it looks like both are series wound. I'm sure line speed will suck on both of them. However, the benefit of the lower gear/lower powered winch is less electrical demand on the truck and less need to add a battery or larger alternator.

There is a thread on 'mud about the HF winches, and it sounds like quite a few people consider the original grease to be poor and are recommending changing it even before installing the winch. I remember someone say he had better free spooling after changing grease.

Basil had the smitty xrc winch and it was easy to free spool and fast line speed. It might depend on which one you get though. I was looking at them and was leaning towards the one that was fully sealed and waterproof, but other things have taken priority and building the jeep will just have to wait.

Luke, tube doors, stage 5 lift kit for the wrangler? Sounds like a great birthday present for the wife.

Nope, no parts for the wife's Jeep. Sadly, the next money that goes to it will be to fix the hood. Got badly beat up in the hail storm today. Thankfully on a wrangler, the only component hail can damage is the hood. Still considering whether its even worth it, it's just going to keep happening.

It's very liberating driving a beater around, I was in traffic today watching at all the people with sad faces over their cars getting pummeled. The Toyota has already received copius amounts of hail damage, so there were no worries. I got to enjoy the beauty, power, and fury of nature with no regrets :)

Well when our jeep got hit the frame around the windshield got dented in as well. We luckily didn't have any hail on this side of town. It did get crazy over here with everyone making a mad scramble home so they wouldn't get hailed on. I had the tube doors yesterday through the rain and surprisingly it didn't get to wet inside even with the sideways rain.

He is going to lower the Cherokee because chinaman's was too easy he needs to make it harder. It wasn't enough he went from 37's to 33's. Now he wants to go all the way back to 31's to show us it's all driver. Only one man can do that and I dare not speak his name for I am just a mere mortal.

If I ever build an FJ Cruiser, you know dang well that I'll have it in the driveway for all of an hour before I torch out all the IFS and throw a solid axle under it. Lol.

I bought a lift kit for a 100 series, and I'm going to run it at the full 2.5 lift height-- because I don't care what Christo Slee has to say about how much droop I should have.... :p

Interesting. I placed a large order with them this morning, I'll keep an eye out. Thanks.

I've got it!

Smittybilt (I think it was Smittybilt?) finally started manufacturing the rear bumper you want?!?!?!??!?

Ding Ding Ding!!! We have a winner!

Actually, it's been out since late February, but some of the money was allocated for other uses. That turned out to be a good thing, because I guess they had some trouble with the latch or hinge, and there's a redesign. They called me and said it would be three or four weeks before they will get one. Just my luck.

It's for the cherokee. Smittybilt part number 76851. Has gas can and hi lift mounts built in. I've seen it in person, it is a very nice looking bumper. I went round and round with myself about building my own-- but sourcing the spindle, latch, tire plate with studs, all the welding wire and gas, plus the price of powdercoating-- and I could probably make this bumper for a little less, but not enough to justify the work. Love the Jeep aftermarket :)

Looks sweet man. Can't wait to see it in person.

Only $749!!! Can you believe that??

The only downfall is adding weight. Hate to do that, but I've been pushing my luck without a spare tire.

I made the mistake of driving my wife's 300HP Pentastar powered Wrangler around this weekend-- and now my Cherokee feels so slow it's like I'm dragging another vehicle around with it :( Last thing it needs is more weight.
