Just bought this instrument cluster (way over paid) and the circuit board copper is broken and lifting in a few places. The cluster is US spec 1/79 - 9/79 #83100-60170 Need a circuit board to replace it. Attached is the board trying to locate. Please let me know if you have one. It’s going into a 1976 or 1977 Fj40.

I have this one. It's a little dirty bit in good shape otherwise. Pm me

Not sure of the exact year but I think they are all pretty much the same.

Thanks for responding to my wanted post. I’m researching to see what circuit board will fit my cluster. After reading @bj40green post #24 (here is link) my cluster board is smaller, similar to the 24v cluster shown in the post (Image A below). However, my cluster is not 24v but 12v as it does not have a resistor or 24v oil pressure gauge and there is no gap on circuit board as shown in image A.

I think this cluster board is the needle in the haystack. Some of the 83100-60170 clusters had the 50 AMP board and others have the 30AMP like mine but with the larger board that wraps around top of cluster. Mine has smaller board with 30AMP meter.

does anyone know if another board will work with this cluster? I’ve reached out to @bj40green but not sure if he is active on MUD anymore.

Ok. I’m hoping someone will come forward with the Info on this cluster to let me know if other boards like yours will work on mine.

Still searching for a replacement printed circuit board (PCB) for my cluster. Discovered that #83100-60072 is also the same pattern board as the one I’m searching for. Below image is of 83100-60072. Notice it matches my board 83100-60070. If anyone has a board from cluster 83100-60072, 3rd generation please let me know.

I learned a little about these cluster boards and the gauges. It may help.

First the newer and older circuit boards for the gen 3 clusters are the same connection wise. If you follow the connections they all should start and stop in the same place. I am pretty sure any gen 3 board would work.

The other thing to note is that the burned connection is the power for the temp gauge (power runs from the middle post on the fuel gauge to the temp gauge). Its possible that something shorted out but you could also have a bad fuel or temp gauge so be careful if you change out the board and have a bad gauge it will just burn up the new board as well.

The poor mans fix would be to put a jumper wire from the center post on the fuel gauge to the temp gauge. That gauges may very well work then.

Also, maybe put a fuse on the jumper in case there was a bad gauge then it would blow the fuse and you would know that you have a bad gauge.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the insight here. Much appreciated. I’ve not tested any of the gauges yet but you make an excellent point. While I know the “jumper” wire is a potential fix, I never thought of adding a fuse in line for the jumper. The cluster is in such great shape aesthetically, I was trying to avoid the jumper and find a good working used board that someone has laying around.

@JVZii I was able to pick up a 3rd generation 1978 FJ40 cluster #83100-60072 that’s missing the speedometer needle. Do you know of any source for the needle or if the entire speedometer assembly needs to be replaced?

Also, the PCB circuit board on the 60072 is different than the 60072 shown in this thread post #13. You mentioned all 3rd gen boards will be interchangeable. Have you tested on the clusters you’ve worked on?

Sorry didn't see your second question. Yes the boards are interchangeable. If you follow each trace from the round plug to each of the connections they should match.

I think at the very end of 78 they must have changed the board traces but the start and end points are all the same.
