Hi, I am currently 3-linking my FZJ80 with absolutely no prior knowledge on suspension. I’m almost done—right now all I need to do is set my ride height. I’m coming here to ask people who know more than me: how much uptravel and down travel should I have?

I currently have 7 inches of shaft showing at ride height (it’s a 14x2.5 King coilover) with 300/200 14-inch springs. I was aiming for around 5 inches of uptravel and 9 inches of down travel, but I’m not sure what to change.

I also currently have 2-inch longer shock shaft ends, but that still didn’t fix the issue of my uptravel being too much.

Do I need different spring rates?
Do I need a longer spring?
Do I need a third spring?

Any help would be very much appreciated.

I forgot to mention this is also my daily driver…
So there will be a lot of freeway miles And I see that rock crawlers use 1:2 travel ratio but if 1:1 is better for a street driven car I could just go with that

5" is enough with good bump stops. I shoot for 5-6" uptravel. 300/200 is close for spring rates. try them and see how you like them. How long are your coilovers extended? I have king short body 2.5's and I use a 2" longer light spring so that they are always under preload. I'm not a fan of spring tender coils

So you think 7in is enough down travel ? And by extended do you mean how much shaft is showing it from eye of one heim to the other ? And also do you think 7in up travel will also be good? And I think my shock will go down more to around 6in after I put my battery in the car / the hood on / and bumper

yes, plenty.

Fully extended length, from mounting point to mounting point. should be in the info that came with your shocks

I got them from fb marketplace so there was no info but let me measure them for you and
It was hard to measure since they are on the car but I got 38in

Ok, yeah looks like you need a longer spring to take up the slack. You can run them like that for now, figure out if that spring rate will work for you. If not, get 1 pair of springs 2” longer than what’s on there
