My truck engine pings every time I hit the gas.Noticed it started doing this recently.Could this be caused by bad/old spark plugs, timing, bad fuel?:hmm:

Probably timing. Check that first. I had some light pinging and found the timing was advanced too far. I set it at stock but read 10 degrees is a good setting.

Went and added some slick 50 fuel treatment, I know, I'm fooling myself, to see if there's any improvement.:hmm:

Engine temp is fine.:hmm:

Temp checked with a digital thermometer at the radiator shop.

Check the timing? BTW the only way I can see the timing marks is line up a mirror first before starting so you can see the teeth on the flywheel before starting then start it and aim the timing light at the hole and look at the mirror for the marks. The 2 BB sized marks is what you want to line up.

My 91 only pings with crappy gas or low octane fuel. If the timing checks out, try a different gas station. They may be misrepresenting the grade of fuel.

I did this plus I added a bottle of slick 50 fuel treatment, problem solved.
