Well I finally got it all put back together. Thanks Jonheld, for the write up. I followed your procedure with the exception of removing the smog pump (I've got little hands with busted knuckles).

If I could add anything to help out the next guy, I would emphasize:

-you have to take out all three studs to get the water pump out.
-the lower radiator hose consists of three pieces; a rubber hose connected to the radiator and the water pump, with a 5 inch+/- section of hard pipe between the two hoses. The hard pipe is connected to the frame or block with a single bolt. If you remove that bolt, the metal section can move around making it tremendously easier to get the lower radiator hose removed from the water pump and re-installed.

I ended up replacing the water pump, water pump gasket, lower radiator hose, oil cooler hose, heater hose, by-pass hose, thermostat, thermostat gasket and o-ring. Ordered all OEM from Beno (Onur) for around $320 delivered; he was very helpful and got it shipped out to me asap. One thing I wish I would have done was go ahead and order a couple of studs and bolts (water pump to block and thermostat housing to water outlet). They are only $1.50 and there's bound to be at least one that will break.

Thanks again for all your help guys!

Good afternoon. Question - My metal pipe on a 1992 3FE FJ80 is mega corroded and leaking coolant. Any idea where we can get one? Cant even find a proper part number for that hard line pipe! Any help will be appreciated.

Post a photo of your pipe....... your leaking metal pipe.

It is this one here in yellow. The leak is small...but a leak is a leak. Struggling to get the vehicle to stop overheating. That pipe will be a step in the right direction, if I every manage to find one. =)

Find the picture above a tad deceiving. The piping lies next to the valve cover but on the passenger side of the vehicle. Only hard piping coming from water pump/thermostat housing into the heater core and heater core valve. Lemme grab a better picture.

@slow95z or @arcteryx :
Do either of you have a 3F-E that may have these pipes on them and willing to sell separately?

I do have a 3fe I am parting but unsure of the condition of that pipe. Looks like it's deep in there and would be a real pain to remove.

I wonder if it could be replaced with a piece of radiator hose. Or maybe some generic metal pipe and hose.

I don't miss my 3fe..... parts availability is bad enough with the 1fz fe.

I was thinking about that as well. Maybe I try to fabricate a replica of that pipe if one doesnt pop up. When those hard metal pipes start rusting out, there is no going back - gotta swap them out. They get all gunked up and corroded inside.

Good Evening @arcteryx . Checked out the website and saw your note regarding the FJ80 compatibility. I dont mind replacing my hoses. Do we know which ones I would have to use instead? Generic Gates one? How about the attachment points. Do we know if they marry well on a FJ80? Realizing the 3fe on a FJ80 is really tough to get specific parts for. Awesome when the car is running nicely....but as soon as stuff starts to go.... =)

No I don't know what would be needed to use, the buyer would need to investigate. Gates brand are always good though.
