Hey all. Ive been porting a head on a 3b and found that it had no cracks in between the valves so I thought it was aftermarket or something. I then tried to cross reference the serial on it and came up empty. Anyone else seen this number on a 3B head?

Definitely a genuine toyota or a very good copy. Has the TEQ cast in on the top of the pic. Maybe a recent replacement? How many kms on the truck?

So the truck has 480k on it and was rusted to pieces, but the engine had a MLS gasket in it as well as lots of crosshatch still left on the cylinders so I figured it was rebuilt somewhere along the way. So I ported the head and changed the pre cups and just bolted it together yesterday.

Yea quite possibly a rebuild, the mls head gasket definitely wasnt on mine when I changed it. Mine had the graphite original. Complete with hairlines between the valves on the head. Bolted together with new precups and mls gasket and going strong after 30K with 330K on the motor.

That's the factory part number.

It supersedes a number of times to 11101-58012, then 58013 and finally to a 58014.

But why is Gerg's casting number showing 11111 when the Toyota code for a head is given as 11101?

PS. The only hits I get on these part numbers is using the 11101 code and looking at China (where these heads are made to ISO quality standards):

Internal factory numbers don't always correspond to the part numbers are used for "after factory" production and installation. That's what we saw when CDan and I were in Japan. :meh:

Also, could also have been a forklift part originally before automobile application.

The head I just pulled off my 2B had the same 11111 prefix when the actual prefix is 11101 as well.
I think Beno is onto something with the "internal part number". 11111 could be the prefix number they use for the casting with a change to 11101 after machining. I know we do similar things with interim part numbers in the jet engine business.

When Dan, Mot and I were on the chassis line at Yoshiwara, all of the parts that Dan and I recognized as normal Toyota parts had different part numbers plus the -00 suffix at the end of all part numbers in the bins.

If you look at internal trim pieces for example, the factory number stamped into the back of the part is usually different than the replacement OEM part for it that you would get from the dealer.
