I am thinking I want to go up from 285's to 315's but do not want to regear anytime soon. Granted I would like to but the cost associated is simply to high for my budget. Has anyone ran 35's without gears at high elevations? Most of the front range trails are 7k and up. I try to keep the truck light and will be running minimal armor. I just don't want to be going skiing or something and have to be in 4-low to get up a hill. I also feel that maybe the strain placed on truck while trying to get up steep climbs like heart attack hill would be too high as well? I figure someone here has done it before and can provide some pro's/con's.

I found this thread helpful when deciding on gears. HTH

this was useful as well originally posted by MEDTRO.

Many threads on this. Nay and I have done this at altitude. Just keep the OD off so the torque converter stays locked, to prolong the life of the tranny by keeping the heat down from slippage.

It is not bad running 35's with stock gears. I would not do it permanently, though.

Did you mean O/D on? The torque convertor only locks up in 4th gear (overdrive) on these transmissions.

No, it locks up in 3rd. w/ OD off. PWR button has to be off. I own 2 of these...
