I am considering doing a 350 swap. The current 2F in my 78 is looking less and less promising and will definitely need to be rebuilt, and I don't want to continue to throw more money at it. There is a good deal on a 350 close to me, is it worth it to do the swap? How hard would it be and what would the costs be outside of just the engine? Would it be more wise to just rebuild my current engine. I know that the previous owner already rebuilt it and it continues to look like he did a poor job, and I am worried about bigger underlying conditions that I have yet to discover.

My choice is a hand built 283 Corvette engine - for the rpm's. I stilll have a 4 sp and transfer case with the Advance Adapter bell housing. They gave away my core 283. My buddy in the 90's did the 383 with a Ranger over drive, he was very happy.

Used engines are used, perhaps abused. Rebuilt by; yea sure by who using what. If I was spending that kind of money I'd be doing the work myself except the machine shop stuff because I don't access to that stuff and more.

Your question is as large as asking what motor oil to use.

Whether it makes sense depends on your use case for the rig, your skills tools and time, and how you value originality on your rig.

I removed a good running 2f from my 75 because I live at 6200 ft and drive over 8000 ft passes to have my fun so I wanted to be able to climb passes at highway speeds, and as an ex hot rodder, I love v8s.
I also wanted to experience the project scope of an LS swap and I have a well equipped shop and plenty of time, so I had fun and got the outcome I wanted.

Many on here hate v8 swaps. Ymmv

Your 40 is too clean and original to V8 swap. Find a good running 2f to swap in place is my vote.

Found your other thread here for others curious bout the current 2f issues: Engine has no compression - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/engine-has-no-compression.1375435/
