Here are a couple pics, overall it was not too bad of a conversion and I think it will work out well:beer:

Great, thanks for sharing that Wayneraintree,

I've been wondering about this mod.

Along with flex on the trails, also wondering affect on street ride getting to the trails when compared to the stock FJ55.

Keep us posted.
Best Regards,
George

You are going to have to go flog your truck now. I want to know how it rides... When I'm not driving my pig I drive a '90 3/4 ton Suburban. The GMC rides like a dream, but it's over 1000 lbs heavier than the FJ55 when it's dry, so I can't help but think they might be a little stiff? But they do have the anti friction pads and all... definately keep us posted after some use as i might consider this later if it works well for you.

I'll certainly keep everyone posted on the impressions... Scouthead, in terms of them being stiff, I jumped up and down on the rear bumper a few times and they seem SOFT! cranked the rancho 9000's to stiffest setting and will try that first per the advice of some others who have done this mod and advised that they are a soft ride. Stay tuned!

This is the exact mod that I plan on doing. Perfect timing. Please let us know how the ride is.
BTW where did you find that fuel tank?

I rarely fill the tank and actually run about 20 gallons for most runs since PA has only offroad 'parks' which don't require much long distance wheeling... but it is nice to have for other varieties of wheeling. It is one of the reasons I went with 3/4 ton springs..... I figure with 50 gallons and a couple jerry cans, I could potentially have 70 gallons on board = 1000 mile range on the road and over 500 offroad with the TBI 350...

Tried to pull up your link to Pirate, but all I get is a "database error"... I'll look around for it later.

Awesome!!:beer::beer:

How is the trail flex? Noticibly better over stock FJ55 rears?
Any axle wrap?

Also, do you get the same street feel as before

More Pics!

Best Regards,
George

I didn't get too many pics.... too busy wheelin' : )

Bumps on the road seem less harsh with the long springs... loaded down with full gear it road very nice. No axle wrap to mention but I do have a good anti-wrap bar also..... I really got some nice droop and also good stuff from the springs... I hit the rear shackle once as I can tell from the slight rock rash it suffered.. other than that, I am getting at least 14" of flex per the shocks' max : )

Hell of a job !!!

Looks very good. I have got many compliments from other people, and I sure do love the ride quality/flex/ weight carrying capability.

My buddy JP helped inspire me so I have to give him credit for the idea.
