3.0 startup knock?

Howdy,
I am looking at a 94 4runner with the 3 liter v6. It runs fine, has good oil pressure and compression. I looked it over with a dowel and it sounds like the valves need to be adjusted, but the bottom end sounds fine.

However, it has a ~3 second knock at cold startup that I can't pinpoint.

Any ideas?


The rig has 148k, timing belt done at 75k, unknown if the recall on Headgaskets was completed.

Mine does that, I think it's my main bearings.... they knock till the oil pressure comes up.....

my brother's knocks all the time but like you said it just needs the valves adjusted.

what brand oil filter you use? a clog perhaps, or oil is draining out over night.
( wrong answer will result in flamage )

I use Napa gold(wix) but this isn't my rig. I can pick it up for cheap, but not sure if I want to fiddle with it.....
