2nd Gen. torsion bar question: turning the main adjustment bolt

I think it depends on the side, i.e. turn CCW on the drivers side, and CW on the passenger.....



I could be wrong though, it has been awhile since I fiddled with them
 
Either side, losening the bolt will losen the torsion bar. I'd also recommend if this is on a 86-88, pull the bolt and anchor and replace it with the 89-95 style anchor and nut. MUCH easier to adjust and tweak.

Put the truck up on jack stands too, get as much load as possible off the bars before you start turning. And stay out from under them, if that bolt breaks the wrench will come FLYING downward and bonk your noggin!
