Last year I had a few problems with my cooling, truck would randomly overheat, so I decided to do a few things to improve it.

My prado has 2lte engine, and I have done a few things to keep it cool.

10 blade fan off a newer hilux - direct fit

Fan clutch pulley off a 1KZte, it is 30% smaller in side, so you fan clutch is spinning faster, and it provides more coolant flow.

For this, you will need pulley from 1KZ, it consists of two parts, you have to drill out 2 spot welds that hod it in place and then use 4 washers as a spacer to prevent it from rubbing against timing belt cover.

82C thermostat

… do you have some before/after coolant or exhaust numbers to share as a teaser … ?

Well not quite. I believe that my car had faulty thermostat, that is why I had cooling issues.

Also I have 2 in body lift, and previous owner lifted the body, but did not move radiator down 2in, so my radiator was highest point in the cooling system and was trapping air there, I moved it down, I replaced thermostat, installed smaller pulley and 10in blade, since then I had 0 cooling issues with the car.

On the highway I drive 100/105 kph, and rarely see anything over 85 degrees, saw 92 once on a long hill. Egt stay 450c all day long on a flat land, and up to 600 on some hills, I usually back off if I see anything over this tems.

There is a good video from the guy in Australia, he has modified surf 130, and he made a comparison between 7blade 2lte (smaller), 7 blade 1kz fan and 10 blade 1kz fan.

1kz 10 blade fan had the best results.

Also, since I installed EGT gauge It is my primary tool to see what the car is doing. I usually downshift if I see EGTs go up.

are you running treps with a 2lte ? (your avatar pic?)

I did, but I sold them. They were amazing in mud, and mountains, but useless in deep snow, cuz I needed them to provide me with flotation on the snow and not dig too much.

I had Trepadors in 37/12.5r17

Now my car has 37/12.5r15 Nankang FT9 - just a classic MT tyre. Good for road and offroad. And car is regeared to 5.28 gears.

And yes, I have factory 2lte. Boosted to 1 bar and mechanical pump off 4d56 Delica

… thanks on the update on temps, that is impressive…

… any chance you have part numbers for the fan and/or pulley … ?

I dont have part number for pulley, it is very common upgrade here where I live, it came from 1KZte engine. I think you are from US, and 1KZs are not common there. You could probably use pulley off 3vze (2nd gen 4runner) it is probably same size, you can find it on any junk yard, and get it for a few bucks.

Fan, I would look for 10in blade for 80 series or 4runner, as they are all the same and interchangeable. And on the picture of the fan, that I posted, there is a part number which you can use as a reference. Cheers

I tried everything, from 0.15 Bar to 0.4 bar on my car, and I find them too aggressive for deep snow driving . Regular MT/AT in the same size or winter tyre line Yokohame G015 works waaaay better. Also, where I live we have to use for such aggressive tyre. And they re quite soft as well, not a lot of thread life, especially if you drive them on highway.

They look super cool though😬
