What do you bet I can't do this in California, despite it being arguably better for the environment?

couldnt tell you for sure, but knowing some of the california regulations I would say no. You cant even fart outside in Ca.

Four questions.
-What year TBI did you choose?
-It looks like you completely bypassed the oem fuel pump, what did you do with it? Leave it sticking in the crankcase?
-If you had your smog equipment, would you still have done the swap?

The kit is pretty much off late 80s 4.3 v6. either s-10 or astro van. Im more familiar with the part numbers than the exact year the parts came off of.. You block off the oe fuel pump hole with a block off plate. The swap can easily be done to keep smog. Lots of changes to keep smog as far as vacuum source locations, and program can be modified to run egr and air pump. Honestly to keep smog is a waste of time. Keep your cat for further exhaust burning, and this setup will run cleaner than the original smog equipment with the carb. If you need to keep the smog equiptment to pass equip inspection, then keep it there just for inspection. I pass smog with egr blocked off and no air rail. The cat is present. Honestly they dont know what they are looking for. Ive passed smog and equiptment inspection everytime with the desmogged weber setup.

Sounds Good. I don't even know why I care about emissions. I live in Nw Florida.
-Anyhow, I'll have to look for this block off plate, I assume it's a Downey part?
-If you're willing to help my re-do the ECU tuning, then I'll probably be following in your footsteps here come fall.
-Most likely, I'll just leave in the smog stuff for originality. Although, I'll look for some information about custom fuel injection with smog pumps. If it's relatively easy to stop the smog, I'll probably do it.
-Was it difficult to modify the distributor?
-You made it look easy, but it appears pretty straight forward.

sorry for the late reply, It was hunting season for me here in colorado. I take lots of time off. It was really easy just fairly tedious. The block off plate you can get at any autoparts store, it is the same block off all the chevy motors use. The distributor just needs to be marked at its resting place. that is 0 degrees as far as it knows. Then remove the mechanical weights but leave the springs. Then peen or jb weld the vacuum advance ring in place so it cant move. It is pretty easy, and I am more than willing to help anyone if I can.

i california you need a carb sticker. you can offten get off a junk yard car that the parts came off of. I converted my 84 cj7 to a 94. got a carb sticker from the dealer stuck it on the car. done three smogs. I am converting my 85 fj60 and there is a lot of great stuff on this thread thanks

I went to O'reily and bought a 10" air cleaner kit and made a little bracket to move the mounting point of the tbi bolt to the center of the throttle body it is about 1 1/2 inch off set it works great for me. I have a thread can anyone school me on 2f tbi its a little disorganized but There should be some good info and maybe even a picture of that bracket but I cant remember.
