285/75/16 REVO vs Geolandar AT II ?

I have Yoko's and have been pretty happy with them. Low road noise and pretty good traction on the nasty rocks around Southern AZ. I have one that seems to be a little worse off than the others. No matter where I rotate it to it seems to leave chunks behind more than the other 3. I have observed, on many occasion now, that the Nitto's are just rock hugging, tuff a$$ tires that just won't give up. More than likely those are my next choice, but I have nothing to complain about on my Yoko's. 17k miles and lots of tread left.

Do you have the same tires Kyle does? I know he has the Geolanders but they're MTs if I'm not mistaken.. Anyway, him and I were both running about 20 psi and the TGs were holding their own for sure against his.. I would say that isn't bad for a set of ATs.. I honestly fully expected to blow a tire or sidewall and I was shocked not to so far.. I can't say enough good thing about the Nittos and for the price, they're the lowest price of them all...

I'm running the AT's. I'm pretty sure Kyle has the MT's. I think thats what he had last time I saw his rig.

Bump - Updated to my original question...are 285/75/16s big enough for off-road use?

It depends on what kind of offroading you want to do. They work for me.

My experience 285 w/ 2.5" OMEs are big enough for anything except hard core rock climbing. Depending on tire brand you may also run into rubbing issues with 315, 2.5" OME lift when you stuff the tires. With only a 1" lift I don't think you'll want to go any bigger than 285s.

Also remember as you go up in tire size acceleration and breaking performance decreases.

Are you current tires completely worn out??? If not, I would suggest getting to know your truck as it is equiped and then as you see fit, adding mods to it.

My avatar and many more pics just like it are of 100% completely stock trucks...so you ask if 285s will just do dirt trails....your stock 265 will do that. No mods needed AT ALL. I think people are too quick to mod their rig before they realize just how capable it is out of the box.

That said I am planning on 285's and a 2.5" lift and I am looking forward to enjoying those mods before jumping to something completely unnessesary for my level of use.
