FWIW, I am going to try the 255s on my 80. It's time to move my 315s off the 80 to my 40. I'll run the 255s on the 80 for about 6+ months before I put them on the 100. At this point, I plan on running the 255s @CM06 to see if my 315s are in fact overkill for obstacles as well as gearing, then make the final decision on new tire size for the 80.

I'm hoping this will give me a good comparison.

For a while, I was planning on running the 255's with these wheels:

but have since decided I'm most likely going in a different direction, as doing that correctly would probably have also involved removing the flares to make it look "right".

Those wheels would have had a 1" narrower stance than the OEM's, though. While that would still work with the narrow tires, I thought about running some wheel spacers for stability if I felt they would be required in the future.

e9999 I agree I love the tall & skinnies: women and tires ;) My problem is the the 8" wheel on me 80 & 100 is a touch too wide and even 255s are a little too small diameter wise for me, but the 9.00R16 XZLs are simply too unobtainable.

When the heck will someone make a 285/85r16 eh? http://tinyurl.com/bj25m

I believe Buckshot mudders are available in that size. I think a Q78 is also close. And I think Simex makes the Jungle Trekker or Centipede in that size. Although they Simexs are not DOT approved or readily available in the US.

I have them on my 93 with the 2" OME and no fender flares and they look great. I had my flares off before i put the tires on so I don't know how they would look with flares. I got mine at Les Shwabs. They are a mild looking mud tire, more aggresive than an all terrain.

I couldn't find the buckshots, but the bighorns have that size, not quite as agressive as the buckshot maybe, but looks more streetable
