I have a 1989 HJ60 RHD 24v with the 2H from Japan and my external voltage regulator went up in smoke when I tried to start the truck.

Best guess is that a faulty fusible link caused this issue (tested one of the wires and it has high resistance). Fixed that, but still need to replace the VR.

Toyota part number is 27700-57090 and I haven't been able to track any down. Looks like after market New Era solutions are now discontinued as well.
What I'm curious about, is if I can use 27700-57080? There's more of these available, and it appears to have the same rectangular plug as 27700-57090.

If anybody has any insight into this that would be great. Thanks in advance!

The search for a 24V Internally Regulated Alternator may be (very) slightly easier, the wiring conversion for externally regulated to internal is straight-forward.. worth considering.

In case anybody else comes across the same question, 27700-57080 is a direct replacement for 27700-57090 which is discontinued. Still available from Toyota/Amayama and has the same 6 pin rectangular plug, so you don't have to do any additional wiring.

Conversion to internally regulated is an option as well as Duncan mentioned.
