I want to swap a 22RET into my Celica. The engine had an automatic transmission. I want to use my old 5-speed manual from my 20R. Does anyone see any problems with that? Are the automatic and manual computers the same?

The R151F 5-speed manual tranny has no computer, the only inputs are simple switches to turn on lights (Reverse & 4WD), I have one torn apart in my basement right now. So, you should be fine. I believe the one thing to worry about from the old auto is the neutral start switch, so the system knows that the tranny is either in N or P and will allow the starter to engage. If you have a wiring diagram, just find this input and jumper across it.

I would be reluctant to use an L tranny behind a 22RTE.
Strength.

Verify bellhousing bolt lengths. I had to get shorter bolts for the top two when I did a swap from an auto to a w56 5spd.

Not familiar with a W50 V. W56, but assuming the same basic construction strength should not be an issue.
